Founded Release Your Potential

The time had come to leave the Army. I started my business, Release Your Potential to support female leaders in finding the confidence, resilience and empowerment that is already within them.

2017
Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

After being promoted to Lt Col and Senior Lecturer/ Researcher in the Academic Dept of Military Nursing based University of Birmingham, in 2017 I was 1 of only 700 globally awarded Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy for my contribution to higher education globally.

2015
Appointed Senior Lecturer and Researcher

I was appointed as Lt Col in Head of Ethics with a focus on Resilience and Wellbeing. As a result of my work, I was appointed Chair of Nursing of the International Committee of Military Medicine with a global responsibility of supporting nurses. This started my empowerment journey.

I became the Editor of a BMJ Military Health Journal. From this, I went on to support nurses who had never published before to publish in an international journal and to speak at international conferences.

2004
PhD in Psychological Wellbeing
PhD in Psychological Wellbeing

In 2004, I started my PhD part time in Psychological Wellbeing focussing on the Impact of military life on the family during deployment. This was awarded to me in 2011.

2002
IVF

After 6 years of IVF, my daughter Rodena was born. I learnt so much about the power of resilience by overcoming challenges through adversity and struggle. I live and breathe this stuff and this journey is why I’m so passionate.

Deployed to the Balkans and started my academic journey of my BSc (Hons) at 38!

Officer Training

I joined the Army at 31-years old to develop my career and travel the world. My 1st post was to Germany where I met my husband. I was posted to Cyprus, Balkans, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and I presented all over the world.

Working in Poverty
Working in Poverty

Working in London where poverty, murder, knife attack, drug addiction, teenage pregnancy and safeguarding issues were commonplace. Before mobile phones and co -working, I escaped a carving knife attack after being chased for wanting to check the health of a newborn baby.

Working in Hong Kong
Working in Hong Kong

Whilst trekking in Nepal, we were caught in an avalanche and 30 people were caught under the falling rocks. After the guide didn’t know how to handle the situation, I took the lead. I organised everyone, got everyone to safety, got medical help and thankfully, everyone survived.

Born at 28 weeks
Born at 28 weeks

I was born at 28 weeks with just a 5% chance of survival. There were no baby clothes small enough to fit, and on my first weigh in, I was 2lbs at 10 days old!
